Flange liners are a type of protective material that covers the inside surface of a reel or spool flange. These help prevent damage to products wound on and off of reels by creating a smooth barrier between the reel and the product.

Flange liners protect products from potential damage caused by rough, rusty, or sharp spots on wooden or metal reel flanges. They also help ensure product quality and simplify reel handling during winding, transport, and storage.

Attachment method varies by material; for example, for wooden reels, an adhesive is needed.  A construction adhesive like Gorilla Glue or Loctite should work fine with either 4mm plastic corrugated or solid HDPE.  For metal reels, the adhesives will work as well, but a VHB (very high bond) tape from 3M is an excellent option with less mess.  Plastic plugs can also be used on metal reels if you drill holes through the liner and the metal flange.

We can accommodate a wide range of reel sizes. We cut the outside dimension/circumference and inside dimension/circumference without tooling costs most times.  Extreme sizes (over 120”) and/or cutouts can be die-cut if needed.

For a quote, we’ll need your reel sizes, flange diameter (or outside diameter), and drum diameter (or inside diameter).  We recommend you hedge the OD of the flange liner back about an inch from the OD of the flange so it doesn’t touch the ground when you roll the reel around your floor.  The ID can be the same measurement as the drum diameter, though.
