Plastic is used in some shape or form across every industry. We’ve talked about how plastic is used in the medical industry, but plastic can also be found in a variety components in the construction industry. This includes everything from plastic screws to flooring, roofing and more.
The outer surface of the roof is important to protect in any construction project. It is a common method to protect roofs with two different plastic materials, the upper being colored thermoplastic olefin/vinyl, and the lower layer being made of polyurethane foam. These layers serve to protect the roof from possible damage, conserve energy, and also keep the interior of the house cooler
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyethylene are common plastic materials used to protect flooring from damage and wear. It makes floors easier to clean and also decreases the potential of sound pollution.
Plastic pipes are commonly used in construction, and often made from polyvinyl chloride (PVC), CPVC, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) or polyethylene, all of which are water and chemical resistant. Plastic pipes are more flexible and lightweight than alternative pipe materials.
Polyurethane is a spray made from plastic and commonly used for insulation when constructing any given low energy building. Polyurethane foam provides high thermal, flame, and chemical resistance which helps aid in keeping the temperature of the structure consistent. It also saves energy thanks to its closed cell nature.
Polycarbonate is regularly used to make durable windows for building because It is a strong and lightweight plastic material. Polycarbonate’s strong nature makes windows much harder to break into, making the overall building a safer place.
